Hi showme,
That problem sounds like a Firewall or Anti Virus program, those programs don't run in Safe Mode, so it's a good bet that they may be the issue. You can try to disable those programs in normal mode and see if you can get a connection. It's also possible a reinstall of the Anti Virus program may be needed.
Remember only 1 Anti Virus and 1 Firewall should be running.
What Anti Virus are you using?
If you have already tried all this, and this problem just popped up out of the blue, you may consider a simple System Restore to a time when things were working correctly.
Thanks
Joe

Thanks for the quick reply. I have ESET Smart Security. did a system restore and then tried to update the AV and it will not update, it says I have the current update, but it is from Dec 8th, so I know that's not right. I disabled it and I am now on the internet in regular mode, so I think your suspicion is correct. I may have to wait until Monday to get help removing and reinstalling the AV. I had had problems before with Malwarebytes and ESET conflicting, but changed MWB to delayed start and now OK Only one AV and one firewall. I will try to make changes and get back to you if successful, otherwise until Monday, and again, THANKS! I feel better already!

OK Zep, I think I am in the clear. ESET is working normally, update is current. I reinstalled Chrome and ran it and Firefox on both accts on computer. No conflicts and all worked well. I updated Sys Restore to today, since it is all in order. Thanks for staying with me, it is very reassuring to know that G2G is right there. Happy New Year!
