Well after making multiple attempts to diagnose the BSOD, I decided to simply re install the OS and start from scratch. I managed to create a bootable USB from the ISO using the Windows 7 tool from Microsoft and I am now currently creating a backup of the system. I now plan on installing drivers carefully one by one and I'm going to try to grab some software to help ensure drivers are installed successfully and remain up to date.

OK well I would suggest before updating any drivers even one at a time I would create a restore point first. That way you just go back to right before that driver was installed if this happens again. I myself use DriverMax for my drivers. I have used it for a couple of years now with no problems. Firstly we always suggest the manufacturers site for updates.

I would like to stay with this till you are completely back up and running with all drivers as up to date as they can be.

I do believe I have found the cause of this headache. I received my copy of Win 7 Home Edition and proceeded to install it. I installed Origin and then Need For Speed, ran great. After plugging in my PS3 controller, that's when it messed up. Once again it immediately booted back up after shut down and after disabling the autoboot I was met with the same vague BSOD talking about drivers and hardware installation. I tried to perform a System Restore to an earlier point in the evening but when I tried to, my keyboard and mouse became unusable...I had to reinstall the OS from the BIOS and start from scratch yet again. I am terrified of plugging that controller into the system now.

You have Win7 drivers for the controller?
Are the USB drivers current?

As an update on this, everything is a-ok now. I have been running games using my PS3 controller with software different from motioninjoy and I have experienced no problems thus far with shutting down or other crashes. Seems like I am in the clear now, thanks for your support rshaffer61, appreciate it.
