Hello,

I have a genuine Windows Vista Home Premium installed on my HP laptop (factory installed). I have it for the last 4 years. Never had this issue before. A box has started popping up for the past 2 days. The only new thing I have done on my laptop in the last 2 days is that I started using Outlook.

The pop up box shows the following error:

Error: 0xC004D401
Description: The security processor reported system file mismatch error.

I have run the MS diagnostic tool and here is the report:

Hi Anshu :welcome:

Two questions:
- Which Antivirus program you have installed?
- Is windows updated with Service Pack 2?

- I have got Symantec Endpoint Protection on my laptop. I installed it almost a month back.
- My windows is not updated with SP2.

The only new thing I have done in the last couple of days is that I started using Outlook Email. And the very next day I started seeing this pop up box. Not speculating if the two are related, just stating the facts and the observations.

Thanks,
Anshu

And the update part is most likely the problem, Uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection and see if the problem is gone.
You need to update your Windows by installing the Service Pack 2 then you can reinstall Symantec, it's a problem that is affecting more and more Antivirus Software running on outdated Operating System.

I got a similar problem with Bitdefender on a machine only with Vista SP1, the program installed fine and on next day after an update the system start complaining about the license...

Thank you for the suggestion. I will do exactly as you said. I am still confused though why the issue has surfaced after almost a month of installing SEP. I will post as soon I am done with SP2 update. I am locked out of the update center through my laptop.
