trying to recover my husbands laptop keep getting error 117

Hi, His laptop is an emachine. Tried to completely restore back to factory. Had to order recovery disk. The recovery makes it all the way to 100% and then gives me an error 1117. Don't know if its the disk or his hard drive. What can I do?

Why did you Factory Reset it in the first place?

I think the Error 1117 might be a hard drive issue. Check the state of your hard drive using SeaTools for DOS

It should pass both the short test and the long test. The long test will take a while.

If you want to recover data from the PC, you can use a Linux Live CD.
