Hi,

I would like you to boot in Safe Mode with Network...

Start the computer and start pressing the F8 key to access the following menu:

Select the option Safe Mode with Networking, tell me if you have Internet Access running in this mode.

Hi SleepyDude,

I started my computer in safe mode like you asked and I didn't have any access to wifi (my computer still says no networks are available). So I connected it to the router with the Ethernet cable and I got limited access (with the little "!" sign next to the icon), but when I tried to open up Internet Explorer I received a "page cannot be displayed" message. So, I guess I kind of have Internet access :/

Hi,

I would like you to Uninstall ESET, sometimes the security programs get damaged by the malware and begin to give troubles...

  • Uninstall ESET NOD32 Antivirus by clicking Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a program or Programs and Features if in Classic View, locate ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 on the list, right click and select Uninstall
  • Restart the computer
  • Visit this ESET page and follow the instructions to completely remove the ESET Antivirus
  • Restart the computer in normal mode and connect the Ethernet cable to see if you can access the Internet. If it works reinstall ESET NOD32 ASAP because you shouldn't access the Internet without an Antivirus program installed
Let me know the result or if you have any trouble following those steps.

Hi SleepyDude,

Will I need a product key or serial number to reinstall ESET? Because a tech installed it for me after I had computer issues while studying abroad, so I don't have a disk or any of the product info; will that be a problem for reinstalling it?

Hi,

If you have the User Name or e-mail used to registered the product try to recover the information using this ESET form.

Hi SleepyDude,

Alright, I tried to do a password recovery, but it requires the email address used to activated the product and I think it was activated for me (so, it's not linked to my email). I tried it anyway with my email, but I haven't received anything and it's been a few hours. I filled out a customer service request explaining my issue and it said that I should receive a response in 1 business day. Hopefully they'll be able to help! Is there anything else you'd like me to do while we wait?

Hi,

Thanks for keep me updated. It's probably better to wait but in the meantime I will see if some of my colleagues have some other ideas...

Hi,

I have one question, and excuses me if you already answered to that. Do you have the Windows Vista Service Pack 2 install DVD?

Hi SleepyDude,

Well, it looks like I won't be getting a response from ESET costumer service day😕 Hopefully they'll write me back tomorrow!

To answer your question, I don't think I have that disk; I was looking for it before I originally posted in the forum, but I never did find it. The only disk related to my laptop that I can find is a Drivers and Utilities DVD from Dell.

Ok, let's wait for the ESET reply.
