Hi Peeps,
I have a Acer Aspire 5750. I didn't have it connected to the internet when bought new for at least three years. Having recently receiving free WiFi, I connected it and it went through a [bleep] load of updates. I use (or used to) windows media player to watch DVD, since the updates the short cut to windows media player has disappeared from my desktop, and going through the search thingy this program doesn't exist, and the ClearFi program will not load and crash's the entire system!?
all I want to do Is play DVD's and it wont open / recognise DVD's...
ive been through the windows fix thingy, looked for driver updates, uninstall then re install drivers, still the piece of garbage doesn't work, i'm ready to take it apart with a hammer....
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thankyou

Hi Leslie, a workaround could be to install another program to play DVDs such as VLC, but I suspect there is something more going on here.
Download, install and run GSMARTControl. It should show a little icon of a hard drive in the window that opens. Doubleclick on the icon, then click on the attributes tab at the top. It will show a table. Let me know the numbers in the Raw Value column for the following rows: Reallocated Sector Count, Power On Time, Spin-Up Retry Count, and Current Pending Sector Count.
