HELP ME PLEASE (ps3)

Okay, I recently got a preowned controller and a new charger cord.

I haven't been able to sync the controller with my ps3, so I looked on playstation.com and there was a suggestion of resetting the whole system, so I followed that instruction. Now, I'm sitting here and have been for about an hour and trying to connect the controllers (my old one included) to the ps3 as it is telling me to but neither of my controllers are connecting. My previous controller was working fine until this but now it's not. I don't know what to do. HELP?
