Hi,

 

I have my computer hooked up to a smart TV via a VGA connection, and that works great. But I'm wondering if it's possible to go the other way....to OUTPUT from the TV and display it on my computer monitor?

 

I know that you can get a TV tuner card in your computer and hook it up to a cable connection, but I don't have a cable connection...I have a good 'ole antenna with digital converter box so I can watch the local broadcast channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc) for free. So is it possible to get this onto a computer monitor?

I have a Hauppauge TV tuner card, there is 2 ways to get a signal to the PC, one is as you said through a cable tv connection called DIgital QAM, then there is Digital ATSC which would be off air Digital signals or Analog TV signals (non digital) off air. Cards have external inputs, some vary by card how many they will have, higher end ones have more. More able hook up other devices like players,DVD, ETC...

 

Pretty much where you live, what you can receive. Tuner card has a built in tuner, but of course can not get encrypted channels, only unencrypted, not scrambled.

 

Best have of course a HD monitor for HD sources as you probably already know.

Also tuner card has antenna RF connection, can buy digital antennas for it, also amplified ones if signals are weak in area.

Most Local channels are not encrypted, usual law now.
