    Hi everybody :

 

                           Has anyone heard any updates for Windows 10.   The latest information is........that it will be on a subscription basis.  As for the cost (monthly or yearly), it seems that Microsoft is holding back on that information.  I've noticed common concerns to Windows users that I've spoken to .   One is the fact that........if their subscription should lapse (even by accident)  they won't be able to use their computers (making their computers nothing more than paperweights).  Plus.....between the increased initial cost of the software combined with the montly/yearly cost.

I haven't heard any news regarding Windows 10 but it looks promising to fix the issues left behind by Windows 8.

No, no subscription. It will be available just like Windows 8/8.1 and so far looks like it will be a free upgrade from Windows 8/8.1.

It's basically Windows 8/8.1 with a built in Start menu. Runs well for me on an old Acer 1.6Ghz laptop. The Windows 10 Tech Preview has had two major updates so far and another is scheduled for some time in January.

I was reading somewhere that Microsoft is wanting to do a free version of Windows 10 for those that have windows 8 and 8.1 but then for everyone else it is going to be a subscription.  Is this true?

No, no subscription for anyone.

I believe they will price it reasonably to try to get people off of XP, Vista and 7.

The free for 8/8.1 users is to get people off of it ASAP since it has never received much market acceptance.

Well dang I wanted to get a bigger HD and have a 4 partition boot with windows 10 included. Even though XP is not supported by Microsoft anymore we still have a large number of people who use it. It would be cool to have XP, Win7, Win8.1 and now Win 10 all multi booted on my system. I wish SSD's would come down more so I could afford a 750 or larger one to make the 4th OS a reality. From what I have seen of Win 10 it does look good.

I use Virtual Machines (Oracle Virtual Box) for this running on Win 8.1 Pro X64.  I see no point in multi-boot any more as the performance of VMs is close to running directly on the hardware. I have the following available at any time:

 

Linux Mint Cinnamon

OS/2 Warp 4

Win 8.1 Pro X86

Win 8.1 Core

Win 10 TP

Vista Ultimate X64

XP Pro X86

Zorin Linux

 

I also have Win 7 Pro X64 on another computer I use for my web server.

 

They will all run in a window on the desktop. I can cut and paste between them so they are great for creating forum responses.
