My laptop takes forever to start up and shut down. It freezes while loading new tabs, and freezes while I am typing. I use Firefox and have Avast antivirus. It will not defragment at all. What can I do to resolve these problems??

Could you please tell us the brand/model of your laptop?
Here's something you can try to speed up the boot process, until we can learn a little more about your system. Click Show.
Additionally, if you have a bunch of add-ons, toolbars, etc that you don't need/want then try this:

One of the MODs may want to verify your system doesn't have malware. I'm posting this as something you may want to try until someone else can better assist you.

Good luck!

In addition to the instructions above, please follow the ones below:

- Download MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;
- Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:
- Flush DNS;
- Report IE Proxy Settings;
- Reset IE Proxy Settings;
- Report FF Proxy Settings;
- Reset FF Proxy Settings;
- List content of Hosts;
- List Installed Programs;
- List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;
- Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;
- Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Please copy/paste the content of the output log in your next reply;
