My roomie has a laptop on Windows 7 Home Premium. She is wanting to install a CD game for her son and it's not working. The CD recognises, loads up the login page, we enter serial numbers etc when we press Next nothing happens. She also tried installing Adobe Reader and same thing...clicked permission for Adobe to make changes to the computer then nothing happens! It has Microsoft Security Essentials, and no errors/pop ups to speak of, everything 'looks' okay. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

List Installed Programs

• Download MiniToolBox and move it to your Desktop;
• Execute it by double-clicking on it;
• Check the "List Installed Programs" checkbox;
  
• Click on the Go button;
• Once the scan is complete, a log will open.
  
• Copy/paste (select the Notepad, press Ctrl + A then Ctrl + C to copy, and Ctrl + V to paste) the content of the output log in your next reply;

I might add my roomie never ever uses her laptop so when I recharged the internet credit initially Windows ran a bunch of updates. Probably a myriad of probles i suspect

Not really, Windows Updates are meant to be installed since they improve the Windows OS and also they are made to make it more secure, so I wouldn't worry about installing them You can uninstall the following programs:

• Coupon Printer for Windows;
• Java™ 6 Update 26
• MyWinLocker Suite - If she doesn't use it;
• Yahoo! Detect;

Are you able to install the programs when you disable Microsoft Security Essentials?

Hiya,

I uninstalled Winlocker, Java Update 26, and Coupon Printer but the Yahoo one was nowhere to be found. Disabling the antivirus doesnt make a difference either. I started her laptop in Clean Boot mode and nothing changed, still cant install either CD game or get a response from Adobe Reader after I click Next. The graphics card has all updated drivers and Java is up to date and says its enabled under Mozilla family in the checkbox as she uses Firefox. Windows 7 Home Premium on SP1 on an Acer laptop if that's important? Im at a complete loss with this I really dont know whats causing this to not respond. If we could install MSE why would Reader and CD game not continue? I'm ready to throw this laptop lol

Well before throwing the laptop away, the ultimate solution would be to factory reset it but we aren't there yet Can you install any other programs other than Adobe Reader and that CD game? Try Adobe Flash Player, WinRAR, etc.

Well I ran Malwarebytes today as a last idea and it found around 300 issues! I then ran a full scan through Malwarebytes and it came back successful with no issues...and I saved Reader on the desktop and selected run as Administrator, still no response I checked Control Panel and it says Adobe Flash is there and installed on 11th this month (when I first started cleaning it out)...I dont remember doing that at all lol.

If Malwarebytes detected malware on your system, I strongly suggest you to get it checked in the malware removal section since these could conflicts with program installation. Simply read the preparation guide and follow every instructions in it. Once you are declared clean by a helper, if the issue persists, you can comeback here and we'll keep on working on it. But for now, I cannot troubleshoot that issue if there's malware in the way, alright?
