:welcome:  etta90,

We need to clarify a few points from your OP;

a friend of mine tried installing a windows 7 for me

The Acer Aspire 5517 shipped with two OS options, Vista and Windows 7, which did your notebook ship with.

d system shuts down and goes to acer erecovery mangement v7.0.10.

Have you checked that the hard drive recovery option is enabled in the BIOS, this is done by tapping the F2 key when you restart the notebook.

 tried to restore the system by backing up files on hard disk, there's not enough space on drive c.

You do not back up your data to the C: drive/partition, by default any drive that has Windows installed on it is allocated the drive/partition letter C:, you need to either back up to disk or external USB type device such as portable HHD/s or thumb drives.

the next option is to completely format my system.

This depends on the answer to the questions below.

how can i get my system running without the option of formatting?

Will the notebook boot into Windows.

Were you able to boot into Windows before your friend tried to install Windows 7.

What type of media was used to try installing Windows 7 as in a full retail or OEM type disk, a downloaded ISO or a burned copy.

Just so that you are aware, as part of the installation process Windows 7 automatically formats a storage device or any allocated partition on the storage device.
