Hi there. I'm in need of some advice/insight into what's going on with my new Toshiba L50-B-136. I'm in a bit of a bind and I have no idea what to do.

I bought this brand new a few days ago. After having it for a couple of days, the mousepad froze. Everything else seemed to be running, it was just the mouse that was stuck. I logged out of my account via task manager and when out of my account, the mouse worked, but when I logged back in it froze. I restarted a couple of times and logged back in and the mouse would move for a few seconds before freezing again.

I did a factory reset, and it appeared to be working. Then today (pretty much the same amount of time lapsing since the first time it screwed up) it did it again. This time I did a system restore to an earlier point. It's now working again. I have no idea if this is a hardware issue or software.

as for things downloaded by me on this laptop, I have put on chrome, firefox, ccleaner and utorrent. As well as uploading my music from a usb.

If anyone has any idea what's going on, I would be extremely grateful for any help.

operating system is Windows 8.1

Thank you :)

Hello sunny panda :welcome: ,

Did you have all drivers updated?

What about your mouse pad behaviour  on safe mode?

Peer to Peer Advice:

  •
  • I see µTorrent is installed, you can be fairly confident this is a principal reason your computer became infected. Plus everything you have downloaded via P2P I strongly advise you delete then empty the Recycle Bin.
  • It's really important, if you value your machine at all, to stay away from P2P file sharing programs, like utorrent, Bittorrent, Azureus, Limewire, Vuze. Criminals have "planted" thousands upon thousands of infections in the "free" shared files.
  • Virtually all of these recent infections will compromise your Security, and some can turn your machine into a useless "doorstop".
  • My friendly advice would be to uninstall the aforementioned.
  • To be honest I have lost count of the number of machines I have dealt with over the years that became infected due to the use of P2P software...

NOW to CCleaner:

  • It is, as has been said an excellent program. It has been around for years.
  • HOWEVER the registry aspect should never be used unless with advice of someone who knows exactly what they are allowing CCleaner to do.
  • Whilst there have been HARDLY any reports of CCleaner, even with the use of the registry aspect causing SERIOUS problems. There is one over-riding rule. IF YOU HAVE NOT GOT problems - do not use CCleaner or any other program, in an attempt to improve what is already perfectly acceptable to you. AND indeed to not use CCleaner to try and solve a problem - especially one relating to the registry.
  • The prime reason for using CCleaner is to clean uneeded files, when someone with knowledge has decided that such action is necessary.
  • The importance of backing up the registry and creating a restore point before any changes are made has already been stressed.
  • Finally the opinion of GeekstoGo on this issue of CCleaner
  • We consider it a very useful and trusted program.
  • We may in certain cicrcumstances recommend its use.
  • We will not however, recommend the use of the registry aspect, except on the direct advice of a Staff Member, at the time of its use on the thread.
  • Neither would we consider its use, without guidance, in the future, by the member who has requested assistance, to be an advisable course of action.

Note

  1. CCleaner has a Registry cleaner feature.
  2. Because Registry cleaners have a history of damaging Registries, the use of CCleaner's Registry cleaner is recommended for advanced users only, and should never be used without backing up the Registry first.
  3. I would add - if you do not know, exactly how the registry works, how it is made up of all its different keys, sub keys, values etc.
  4. then you are NOT qualfied to use this aspect of the CCleaner program.

Thank you for your help. It seems it's sorted now, although now I'm getting the blue screen of death :/ I've found out a way to fix it (hopefully) by uninstalling the AMD driver then reinstalling to the latest version. Trouble is, I can't seem to find the driver the AMD website tells me is the best driver for my laptop. Man, I've never had so much trouble with a simple laptop before. I rang up Toshiba, and they told me I'd have to pay £55 to get them to fix it via remote assistance. I just don't have that kind of cash spare. I wish I'd just kept my old samsung lol

Return it and get a different laptop. A new laptop should not have those kinds of problems.
