Ok I have a Gateway MS2285 that powers up but the screen will not come on. The media board lights up if pressed and it sounds as if it's trying to boot but stops. I've tried getting error codes & removing the memory with no luck. Any advice?

Have you tried connecting the notebook to an external display by way of the VGA port.

 

Two other checks for you to do, 1: Try pressing the Fn and the F4 keys down together in case the notebook has somehow been toggled to external display mode. 2: With the notebook powered up, shine a flashlight into the screen then look closely to see if you can see the desktop icons in the background

As this appears to be a technical problem I have moved the topic to the technical area.

 

If it turns out that it is malware related it can be moved back.
