Hi,couldn't find a solution to this so I'm hopeing you can help.

My friends pc has windows 8.1 and i cannot get it to boot from the dvd.

The computer always goes to the password screen and she does not remember it.

So I have done some googling and found a software to fix this however I cannot

boot from the dvd.I can get into the bios but cannot make much sense of navagating it.

The computer is an ASUS M32 Series from futureshop. The bios is ati revision 0302.

Really hoping you can help, she bought this computer and has had nothing but trouble

with it.Thanks.cheers.

G-bo,

Most ASUS computer at the ASUS logo screen press Delete to get to the boot menu. Should show you these choices at boot when it reaches this screen.

Will then ask if want to boot from CD or DVD Press enter and at the boot menu choose the DVD Drive where the disc is in. Not sure if this ASUS has a UEFI BIOS as then there will be 2 ways to install and then would show on the boot menu as UEFI ( DVD Drive and letter) or just  DVD Drive name and letter. Disc you have is Windows 8.1 installation Disc ? Can't not recall a way to reset your password though, if there is a way.

Hi jds63,

Thanks for the reply.I can get into the boot menu and it only has one selection (the windows boot manager).I can get into the advanced boot menu but I cannot tell from that how to boot from dvd.

There is still only the windows option but there are also other things in there which may bring up more choices but I do not understand them.

Your welcome. Boot menu will have all the drives listed on the PC, Hard drives, USB and DVD or CD drives. Disc needs to be in the drive before. Choose the drive where the disc is in, using keyboard or mouse to select it. As said ASUS you usually push Del. at logo screen should show options at this screen for boot menu.

I am sorry i believe delete key bring you into the BIOS, look at pages 82 on in manual here for the options for it. Try a recovery.M32 does have few different models after 32 this one is M32AD

Thanks jds63,

yeah I tried a recovery and it still asks for a password.I can get in the bios like I said I can't make no sense of it tho'.

It isn't like any other bios I've been in.Usually like you stated your boot options will be in there but this has got a whole

different set of choices and none of them seem to have anything to do with booting from a dvd drive.

They say this is added security for your computer but it seems to make it impossiable to do anything if you do not

have your password.stumped.I don't even know how I could re-format a machine like this.Seem to making them harder

to work on all the time.

Welcome !

If you are recovering the PC it will not ask you for a password, would be a factory reset, if this PC came with Windows 8.1 on it should be a way to then recover it from a recovery partition on the hard drive.

Brings the PC back to the state when it was purchased, usually done by pressing F9 at boot as shown in manual i linked and just as you see the ASUS logo screen not after it. I believe pressing F8 at boot will bring you to the Boot menu and then select DVD Drive, so then you are able to boot from the disc.

You can not access doing a reset or do a recovery within windows because you can not get access into windows to do it, your only choice is by booting from the disc, that can only be done if BIOS is UEFI.

Look at option # 7 here http://www.eightforu...indows-8-a.html

You must be pressing wrong key at boot is why keep entering the BIOS instead. Rather not try changing boot sequence there, rather through the boot menu.

So either try F9 to recover from boot without a disc or retry F8 or either F12 with disc in the DVD drive. Can always call ASUS Support at no charge.

Hi jds63,

Thanks for you're help. Finally got it to recover  from boot with you're help.

Strange thing about it was pressing f9 took me to a system restore, after the 3rd

time I went into bios and set it back to it's defaults then tried f9 again. It worked after that.

I was ready to give up a couple times thanks for hanging in there and all the help, appreciate it very much.

take care....Glen.

O.k. either changed something at the time of entering the BIOS with order of the boot. Recall F9 with ASUS brings you to the factory reset recovery, sometimes this may or may not work with newer operating systems like 8.1, as it has been awhile for me using that method and Win 8.1. Using the install media disc selecting repair this computer or booting to advanced  options through the disc or Windows is only way i can see you getting to system restore unless you meant recovery.

Basically did a recovery from system partition on the hard drive. Your Welcome
