I have an HP Pavilion dv6700. It randomly shuts down with no warning. It mitght do it during boot, it might run for a week. I took it apart cleaned and replaced thermal paste,but it still shuts down.

Do you have a multimeter lying around to test the Power Adapter to eliminate the possibility that it's time for a new one.

Thanks. Yes I do have a multimeter. When you plug in the power adapter with or without battery the little power light comes on if that means anything. Not knowing when it is going to shut down makes it kind of difficult to diagnose. It has run for as long as 4 wks . and short as 4 seconds. Thanks for everyone's help.
