Hi, everyone. So I’ve had this problem with "svchost.exe LocalSystemNetworkRestricted" hogging my CPU for years now.

I know for a fact that it isn’t malware-related as I frequently scan with Avast and Malwarebytes, use Comodo Firewall, stay away from porn/gambling/suspicious sites, and haven’t gotten any sort of infection in pretty much over a decade.

I’ve tried pretty much everything: I've tried disabling Windows Update and SuperFetch via services.msc, I’ve updated every driver/software on my notebook, I’ve even formatted my notebook a couple times, but unfortunately, the problem comes back within a few months.

The only curious thing I’ve noticed is that my notebook will slow to an ABSOLUTE crawl when svchost acts up, but it’s goes back to absolute normal as soon as I activate/deactivate my notebook’s WIFI. Turning it on/off only works for about 5-10 minutes, though, then it goes back to being unbearably slow.

This is obviously a Windows glitch/conflict issue and is not related to malware, but I can’t find a solution.

Someone please help me! :(

Hello Artanis,

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here,  this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Thanks for your response, phillpower2.

I took the profile snapshot while svchost was acting up: http://speccy.pirifo...g2wLv30pmuYAOw6

I don't much understand this stuff, but I see that svchost was consuming 205 MB. :/

Hello Artanis,

Before we can do anything here we need to see a fully updated Windows OS;

From your Speccy report;

Operating System

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Computer type: Notebook

Installation Date: 11/25/2014 8:32:17 PM
Windows Security Center
User Account Control (UAC):
Enabled
Notify level:
2 - Default

Windows Update
AutoUpdate:
Disabled

We can see that Windows was installed on 11/25/2014 and that AutoUpdate is disabled but what we cannot see anywhere in the report is any Windows updates having been installed or in fact any failed attempts at installing Windows updates, you may find that if you fully update Windows the problem will be solved as many updates are bug fix related and one just may resolve the problem that you are having.

From your OP;

I frequently scan with Avast and Malwarebytes, use Comodo Firewall, stay away from porn/gambling/suspicious sites, and haven’t gotten any sort of infection in pretty much over a decade.

That you are aware of, a lot of Windows updates are security patches and just missing one leaves you vulnerable to malware attack, fully update Windows and then post a new Speccy url for us please.

Oh, forgot about that. My OS is fully updated, though, it's just that I had disabled Windows Update a few days ago in another attempt at fixing this problem and had forgotten to re-enable it. I did just that and found that there was only one new "Security Based" update available. I downloaded and installed the update, but it hasn't changed anything.

Anyway, here is the new Speccy profile: http://speccy.pirifo...eX7OZPOPimEkuRN

I had look at the speccy log you post and there is no Svchost.exe process that is taking 250 MB memory space only Mozila Firefox taking up to 250 MB memory space. Use Process Explorer and double click the svchost.exe process that is utilizing CPU more then other processes and from services.exe properties click services tab copy paste here the list of services svchost.exe hosting.

Oops, it was actually "Peak Usage" (sorry about that) but it is 205 MB (Process ID: 832). The new log says the regular usage is at 141 MB.

I attached the screenshot you asked for.

EDIT: Had a problem uploading the screenshot. Should be ok now.

Still only showing one update installed so would suggest that you try updating manually for a couple of days to be on the safe side.

Run Process Explorer again.

Click twice on the CPU column header to arrange things by CPU usage, this will put the services with the highest CPU usage at the top of the log.

Give it a minute or so then grab a screenshot and attach it to your next reply please.

Not heard back from you Artanis, do you still require assistance or is the issue now resolved, an update would be appreciated.
