not having set up a network myself with a second router in it i can only assume it's a conflict between the belkin and tenda firewall rules.

I can assure you it's not. The way he's just set up the Tenda, it is litteraly just passing through traffic, it's not manipulating it.
 

so this is what i'd do, first i'd test by just connecting the switch to the belkin only (disconnect the tenda) and seeing if it then works, this will confirm the problem is between the belkin and tenda somehow.

This is actually a good idea. Though my guts say that it won't matter.

set the belkin settings to default and make sure upnp is on then test to see if it works from there.

Please please PLEASE don't turn UPnP on. There is no good reason to use UPnP, and it's super easy to just setup your ports manually. UPnP opens up a whole new can of worms.

if it does now work i'd go into the tenda settings and make sure everything that i could turn off was turned off, upnp, dhcp, etc. etc. so it's only the belkin and it's settings that control what data and ports are sent where then connect the tenda back to the belkin and switch to the tenda and test again.

Doesn't matter as the tenda isn't handling the traffic.
 

if it still didn't work just connected to the belkin then i'd guess the issue is elsewhere with that game and i'd try maybe using a different dns server in the router to see if that solved the problem.

DNS has nothing to do with NAT issues.

What might also be an issue (but I have not researched this) is the service provider blocking certain ports to protect their network. I have seen this in the past.

Try connecting directly to the Belkin first, if that doesn't work, contact your provider to see if they have any closed ports.

I tried connecting directly to the Belkin, but ended in the same result. Should I turn UPNP off? I noticed that it's on.

 

Also, my IP hasn't been restrictive in the past. Find it a bit hard to believe they've arbitrarily closed some ports recently. But I suppose I could ask them when I get the chance.

i always turn upnp off for security reasons, but i thought it would just make things easier to test for now if you turned it on. more info about upnp here :- https://en.wikipedia...l_Plug_and_Play

 

the ports may have always been closed by your isp but you never noticed before until you had a game that needed those certain ports open to work, must admit in the uk i've never experienced any ports being blocked by my isp so that thought never even crossed my mind but seeing how it still doesn't work even when only connected to the belkin and in the dmz then i think that's the best reason given so far why it doesn't work and i'd definitely give your isp a call to find out.

Thanks for your help, everyone.

On further investigation, I found out that Belkin is just a shoddy brand for this sort of thing. I'd actually forgotten, but I used to have this exact problem with my PS3 in the past and had replaced that Belkin with a TP-Link modem.

Upon testing that modem, NAT type A without fiddling with anything! The reason I'd stopped using that modem was because it doesn't get my full internet speed though. So I went out and bought a new TP-Link wireless modem router on special. Full speed, NAT type A out of the box.

My set-up is fine now and if nothing else, I no longer have a double NAT. So thanks, all. My advice is to avoid Belkin if you wanna have an easy time playing online with consoles.
