Hey!
About a week ago I tried to fix some sound problems on my Laptop, after a while I thought maybe resetting would help. After that I could not use my keyboard and touchpad anymore, I looked for answers in the internet but nothing helped.

When I open the device manager on my laptop, I cannot find a keyboard icon. Is there a way to get that back?

To avoid any repetition can you tell us what you have already tried.

Ive looked at the hidden devices, looked for updates, tried to troubleshoot but it says that there are no updates or changes necessary. I reset again to look if the problem would be solved haha, I saw something about bios and got in there but did nothing because it looked too complicated (the keyboard worked doing that tho), I tried to find a keyboard driver on the asus website but couldnt find any. Oh and i tried adding legacy hardware in the device manager because of a video. I think thats all

What about checking for a system restore point that is before the keypad stopped working.

The keypad working in the BIOS means that it is software or settings related, it is as if the notebook has been upgraded from one version of Windows to another and there are no drivers available for the newer OS.

What is the model name or number of the notebook and what version of Windows are you running, 7, 8.1 or 10.

I tried to do that too but it says no restore points have been created on your computers system drive.

Its Asus X205TA and Im running Windows 10. It also says it got installed on May 31 when I did the second reset and i dont know if I had windows 10 before that or not.

Not good and for future reference, before ever making any changes always create a new system restore point first, that is your safety net should something go wrong as in the case here.

The Asus X205TA shipped with Windows 8.1 which explains the lack of of Windows 10 drivers.

Have you checked for a recovery partition, if present this will restore Windows 8.1 and you will then have to install the latest version of Windows 10 by way of an in place upgrade.

Connect the computer to the mains electric, restart and continually tap the F9 key which if present should bring up the Windows Boot Manager, if yes, press the arrow keys to select Windows Setup then Click Recovery and wait while the restore is carried out and the computer restarts, whatever you do, do not interrupt the process no matter how long it appears to be taking.

It may help if you told us what actually happened when you tried tapping the F9 key.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

I hit the F9 key over and over again. By the way, thank you for helping me!

Thanks for the Speccy url

Couple of questions for you first then some feedback regarding the Speccy report which will cover why the questions below have been asked.

Have you owned this computer since out of the box new.

Have you ever done a clean install of Windows 10 using an ISO downloaded from Microsoft.

From your Speccy report;

Storage
Hard drives
SanDisk SDW32G (SSD)
Manufacturer: SanDisk
Interface: SD
Capacity: 29.1 GB
Real size: 31,268,536,320 bytes
RAID Type: None
S.M.A.R.T
S.M.A.R.T not supported
Partition 0
Partition ID: Disk #0, Partition #0
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: DE150558
Size: 498 MB
Used Space: 352 MB (70%)
Free Space: 146 MB (30%)
Partition 1
Partition ID: Disk #0, Partition #1
File System: FAT32
Volume Serial Number: B21837E6
Size: 96 MB
Used Space: 25.3 MB (26%)
Free Space: 70 MB (74%)
Partition 2
Partition ID: Disk #0, Partition #2
Disk Letter: C:
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: 2A27A6AA
Size: 28.5 GB
Used Space: 10.2 GB (35%)
Free Space: 18.3 GB (65%)

The small capacity of the storage device and the type of partitions on it suggest one of two things, (1) There has never been a recovery partition on it or (2) Windows has been clean installed and any recovery partition on the storage device was formatted during the process, I suspect the first explanation.

Second thing of note in Speccy is the absence of any keyboard in the Device Tree or Peripherals list, this means that the keypad is either disabled in the BIOS or it is broken, you mentioned in your reply #3 that the keyboard worked when you were in the BIOS so unless it has broken since you may well find that the keypad has been disabled in the BIOS somehow.

I got the laptop from a friend, so I did not get it new out of the box.

I cannot remember doing anything like that, he set up the laptop for me and gave it to me after he set it up.

Ok so what can i do to see if the keyboard is disabled in BIOs?
