Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire 3 A315-53-88N3 with Windows 10

I was recently typing and when i had finished the letter "c" just keep typing even though I wasn't using it. It was almost like the key itself was stuck but on looking at it, it wasn't at first glance. The letter c kept appearing when i was using Word, Chrome, even trying to put my password into Windows.

I then ran into problems and in the end try a restore from my initial setup USB hoping this would fix the problem. However when it was reinstalled the problem with the random typing of the letter c continued. It is only the letter c.

I check online and they suggested running the battery down and then removing the battery for 30 mins to see if that would fix the problem. I am currently doing that now.

They also suggested removing the driver for the keyboard and then rebooting the laptop for the driver to install again after reboot. This did not fix the problem either.

I have connected a USB keyboard to the laptop and so far have been able to get through this message without the letter C continually typing on its own. So I'm not sure what that is telling me is it a faulty key on the laptop or what?

I am at a loss what to do and would appreciate any help that anyone could provide me. Apologies if this is not the right forum to post this in.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Catherine

Hello mccann88,

Good troubleshooting done already and I would say that you have narrowed it down to a bad letter C on the keypad, it does not happen often but on occasion the carbon pad that is beneath the letter on the keypad can break into two and stick.

Does the letter C on the keypad move freely when pressed and released, do hear any noise at all such as a click or something crunching/grinding when you press the letter C.

If the keypad needs to be replaced it will require an almost complete dismantle of the notebook, example video here

The letter C on the keypad moves with no issues and noise.

However now when I press the C on both the laptop keyboard and external keyboard it is doing the recurring C althought I'm not sure if this is just the laptop keyboard overiding the external keyboard as I am unsure how to switch the laptop keyboard off. It isn't something that is always happening. It does seem to be quiet often but still have moments of normal typing.

Because this is now occuring on the external keyboard does this sound like a laptop keyboard issue or something bigger?
