[RS12]

As the title states. Trying to connect a external optical drive, and gets the following message;

 

The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it.

 

 

USB port(s); Functions

Optical Drive; Functions (checked on a laptop)

 

Has worked before on this computer!

 

The optical drive is a; LiteOn eBAU108 (I know that this drive isn't offically for windows 10 but has worked before all the same on this computer)

 

What I have tried so far;

 

Unplugged power-cord from PC, re-plug and restart

Tried different USB ports (6 in total)

Looking for driver through the error message in device manager where it is listed as; "Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)"

Searched for LiteOn firmware update (none that I could find)

Disabled Fast StartUp in power options

Edit: Disabled USB selective Suspend setting

Edit: Uninstalled Hidden entry in Device manager

 

I haven't tried re-installing the Universal Serial Bus Controller or anything of that nature, as mouse/keyboard and headphones are all USB connected.Nor have I touched the reg-file system.

 

I suspect some pesky windows update might have done it in for me regarding this drive, as it has worked before with no problems.

Aye, already tried the optical drive on a laptop (as stated) and it worked fine. The drive is getting power when connected to my main PC though, as I can open it and the green lamp lits up.

 

The suspend didn't fix it. Thanks for response though

Okay i did not see that you checked it on a laptop. That's a weird error an i am looking into it, just searching like you are.

Disconnect the device and uninstall hidden driver for the device from Device Manager --> View --> Show hidden devices.

Hey. Tried it, and no luck sadly so.

So I did a quick search in the Registry, and the driver package for my drive is indeed there, from previous use.

Not sure if I can just go ahead and delete the Registry entry, in hopes of windows finding the correct driver for it when re-connecting the drive.

Do you have another computer you can test the device on.

 

Already tested on a laptop (as stated in og post), and the optical drive works fine. I haven't uninstalled anything. It is an external optical drive and windows usually just uses a generic USB driver for it. The headache, is that windows suddenly won't recognise my drive, despite I have been using it many times on this PC. 3 weeks ago, the drive had no problem running on this PC.

 

Also, I went ahead deleting that reg entry, no luck though.

Reinstalling the USB device drivers can fix the issue and make your USB drive recognizable.

From Device Manager locate and expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Right-click a USB driver and click Uninstall device.

Repeat this for all other devices listed under the Universal Serial Bus controllers section.

Restart your computer. The USB drivers will be automatically reinstalled and the last USB device malfunctioned Windows 10 error should be fixed.
 

I tried uninstall the USB Root Hub (3.0) and the MS Host controller. No luck though (FYI I can't uninstall every USB connection by themselves, because as soon as I hit the mouse USB all control is lost. As stated earlier, all my peripherals are USB connected)

 

Anyways, thanks for trying. Think I'll have to look into buying a new drive instead, which is 100% win10 pro compatible. I suspect an update has screwed me over regarding this (latest update where framework updates, so dunno)

I'd rather not. I have way too many customizations in my current install, that would take me a long time to redo. A new drive would be cheaper than the time spend on redoing all my stuff

Went a bought a new optical drive, so consider this solved. I'll have to use the LiteOn drive for my other computers. Thanks to all who responded and have a nice day
