Apologies 123Runner, I had completely forgotten that you replied about the webcam earlier on in the thread.

 

I have been looking at the following webcam: https://www.amazon.c...csubtag=1406114

but am concerned that if the webcam sits on top of the computer it will be too high to pick us up. I am usually fairly low on the Zoom screen even when I am sitting in my computer chair and using my laptop at the computer desk where the new computer is situated.

 

We are still reliant on Zoom as Covid is still condemning us to be pretty isolated from real-life people as my husband has blood cancer and there is apparently no guarantee that the vaccine will have given him any immunity whatsoever.

I meant to mention something else about the Vaio. It is running on half memory; you probably don't remember, but we tested it out a while ago and concluded that it was the actual slot (and not the memory stick itself) that wasn't working. For ages, I have been going to try buying a single 4GB stick to replace the one remaining 2GB one. Crucial was previously showing one such stick, but now it says there is nothing compatible available. Any ideas on possible solutions?

Thanks for that info about Mr Memory. I contacted them, but unfortunately all they would say is that the maximum RAM you can put in each slot is 2GB.

 

The laptop specs say that the type of RAM the laptop takes is DDR2 SDRAM. I see that Amazon have some 4GB sticks of that type for sale, but in your opinion would there be any point at all in buying one to try?

We need to be guided by your Crucial scan so no point in purchasing a 4GB stick as the BIOS would not recognise it and the notebook not boot up.

That is what Mr Memory said. The strange thing is that a few months ago Crucial showed a 4MB stick for sale. Now it shows absolutely nothing, not even 2MB.

 

I am wishing now that I had bought the 4MB stick back then; even if it had turned out to be no use, at least I would know for certain.

 

Another case of 'He who hesitates is lost ', I guess.

Hello, Im new here and from USA not UK but just wanted some advise. I have a mid 2011 iMac and am looking getting a new(er) iMac. I want something that is as good as the one I have. Using High Sierra works ok, but lots of issues with updating apps or getting new ones etc. I have 2.7GHz i5, 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, 251 GB Flash storage and 1 T TB SATA disk. I use Pro tools, Have web cam, Mbox, and a few other USB A devices. I am unsure to buy a new mac with the M1 or get a 2017 and up model. If I get a previous one how long will it be compatible with the OS and updating? any help would be great!!! Thanks-Jon
