When I start my computer all i get is a flashing screen.  Previously I would get this message:

interactive logon process initialization has failed

and I tried booting in Safe Mode tried system repair and then tried a system restore.

Not sure what to do next.

Providing information about the computer itself would be a good thing as atm we know absolutely zero about it so cannot suggest anything I`m afraid  :(

Computer is a Dell E6540 16 mg Ram, 256 SSD I7 Windows 7 Pro

    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
CPU
    Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.70GHz    41 °C
    Haswell 22nm Technology
RAM
    16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
    Dell Inc.
Graphics
    Generic PnP Monitor (1600x900@60Hz)
    Intel HD Graphics 4600 (Dell)
    2048MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 8790M (Dell)    36 °C
    CrossFire Disabled
Storage
238GB SK hynix SC210 2.5 SCSI Disk Device (SATA (SSD)

Two issues after solving the problem by copying the backup registry.  (That was the only thing that worked.  Previously computer would not boot to Windows even in safe mode).

Issues now are SFC/ Scannow - "Windows Resources Protection could not perform the requested operation."  and Windows Update gives error message 80073712.

Would a System Restore work?  Running ok now except for those two errors.

Thanks.

This looks to be the same computer as in your malware removal thread here which means that we are not allowed to help you here until the malware removal thread is concluded.

One thing that I can suggest before you go is to try connecting your notebook to an external screen to see if the issue is replicated on the external screen, other than that we can only wish you good luck with the other thread and then look out for you here should you need to come back.

He could ask for the two threads to be merged but forum rules apply to us all and no help here while you are being helped with malware issues on the same computer.
