I was given to check an HP laptop, new (almost unusable) but with old Windows 10 version installed (1709). I checked it for malware and it's clean. Disabled the start-up items, used Autoruns, started in clean mode... Nothing. The upgrade (using the media creation tool) took more than 12 hours to complete. No hard disk issue. But it is soooo slow, almost 10 minutes to log in Windows. After that, things are not bad, but certainly something is wrong.

 

So... I would like some experts' help here to guide me how to start.

The correct way to post a speccy report!

 

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

• In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
• In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
• Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box

Post the resulting URL.

 

- What is the exact model of this HP? you may need to check on the back of the machine for the complete reference.

 

- Any recent hardware change?

 

- Check if there are any Windows Updates pending to install because of errors.

One of the previous BIOS versions clear states that - Provides support for Windows 10 v20H2. it seems something needs fixing on that area!

Nothing else. If you want to boost the machine more replace the slow HDD with an SSD even a small one (256GB min.) and move the HDD to a caddy installed on the DVD writer space!

Did you force the upgrade to Windows 10 21H01 or it was offered by Windows Update?

Yes, I forced the upgrade, using the media tool. 21H1 was not shown yet in the Check for updates area.

 

Anyway, it was really something very strange, because after updating the BIOS things seemed better. After I tried to restart for a couple of times, the same slowness returned.

 

I ran FRST again and noticed that in the Errors section of the log two errors were repeating themselves: The first one was about the Bonjour service and the other one about a XTU3SERVICE. I uninstalled Bonjour and searched about the other service, to find out that it belongs to Intel services and has to do with a kind of overclocking. 

 

I did what this link says about this: 

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\InstallUtil.exe 

 

No other sign of it elsewhere.

 

The next start-up times were/are perfect, around 1-2 minutes. However I didn't know what helped. I ran once more FRST and again in the Errors I saw the XTU3SERVICE error (failed to start), so I gather that uninstalling Bonjour and updating BIOS did the job.

 

I will search a bit more about that service and see if there is anything to be done to get rid of the error. Any ideas or do you think I should leave it as it is since the problem is solved?

You uninstall command ins't complete!...

 

FRST log should show if a service named XTU3SERVICE exists, you can use a FRST fix to remove it or simply on the command prompt type:

sc delete XTU3SERVICE

By forcing the upgrade Windows 10 didn't check if there are hardware, drivers etc. on the machine not yet compatible with this new version of Windows 10 that is a bit recent...

No XTU3SERVICE in the FRST logs. Only in the errors part of the Addition log.

I searched about the service with FRST. Nothing was found. 
 
When I did the uninstall command you provided above, the result was SUCCESS. That means it is removed for sure?
