When you get time can you start windows in safe mode with networking and then see what the Icon say's.

To do that see link.

I booted into safe mode with networking and checked the driver for an update.  Windows still says it is the most current.

I will likely not be responding to any posts over the next couple of days, but will return after Christmas.

(There is another issue that I want to post regarding a lack of sound from my home theater system when this laptop is connected.  The same problem occurs when a different laptop is connected.  And what is really interesting, is when a third, different laptop is connected, there is sound from the home theater system!  Do I need to wait until the internet connectivity topic is resolved?)

Merry Christmas, and thank you for your help!

I just wanted you to see if there was a change in the network Icon while in safe mode with networking.

In Safe mode with networking does the network Icon still report "Not connected"

That's a real strange problem with the home theater.  Let's see if we can fix the network Icon first.

Happy Holiday's

In safe mode with networking, the icon still shows "not connected," even though I am!

Hello Jack,

1 With your mouse copy this command in bold:

net localgroup "Administrators" "NETWORK SERVICE" /add

Now put the mouse in the black command prompt window right click and paste. Hit enter on keyboard

Do the same for this command

2 With your mouse copy this command in bold.

net localgroup "Administrators" "LOCAL SERVICE" /add

Now put the mouse in the black command prompt window right click and paste. Hit enter on keyboard.

Reboot the computer/Laptop and see if any change in network icon.

Hi zep516,

I followed your instructions in post #21 and it worked!  The icon shows 5 bars, there is not yellow star over it, and when I hover over it with the mouse,it says I am connected.  Which I am.

Many thanks to you for your help is this odd problem.  By the way, what is post #22 all about?  It is a strange looking link.

(I will post my lack of home theater sound when the laptop is connected in a separate post.)
