But when go to the messenger or click on the Messenger Icon, there are no new messages. I tried deleting the Facebook cookie but that doesn't get rid of the new message alert. It started after I posted an item for sale on Marketplace. I know it isn't critical, but it's annoying. Any way to delete the notification do it doesn't recur?

No problem. Did it solve the problem?

Doing this seems to have resolved it (for now):

  • Go to your messenger app or open your inbox in a browser.
  • Click on a recent message and click on ‘mark as unread’ as shown in the picture below.

Ohhhh... the red dot was back today when I logged in.

I am also getting friend requests from members I know I already I'm friends with.

<Grrr>

Wish I could help but: 1) I refuse to use Facebook and 2) I'm fresh out of ideas. Hopefully someone else will drop in here with some ideas to try.

I went to the Marketplace page and looked at my notifications. Didn't do anything but that, but that annoying red dot is gone (for now). Just wanted you to know.
