I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre E73   Model # 00ESUS desktop with Windows 7.

I bought it some months back from Craig's List.  I have never seen it work on the Net to date.

Today I barely had Spectrum High Speed Internet installed.

As it turns out, there is an issue.  All the websites that I search WILL display the hits / links.

However, when I click on an actual link ... MOST websites will not load.

They will display the error message in the attached image.

Some of the very few websites that DO work are:

WiseCleaner ... Raising Cane's ... Malwarebytes ... Norton ... YouTube

Otherwise, most other websites do NOT work, like:

Tracker Software ... MajorGeeks ... Opera Browser ... Vivaldi ... Panda Dome ... SUPERAntiSpyware ... Walmart ...

Pizza Hut ... Firehouse Subs

I tried to find a pattern, a common denominator among the group of working websites and among the non-working websites, but I cannot.

This happens with both Opera Browser and Google Chrome.

I even tried the program Complete Internet Repair to no avail.

What Setting or what ANYTHING could my computer need to get ALL websites to load?

The image did not attach.

I apparently forgotten to press the "Attach This File" button.

I'll try again.

Hello chimiti,

Boot the computer to safemode with networking and see if there is any difference.

to do that

  1. Power off your computer

  2. Restart your computer and immediately start pressing the F8 key, located on your keyboard. Continue to press F8 repeatedly until the Boot Menu appears

  3. Select Safe Mode with Networking from the list of options using the arrow keys on your keyboard, followed by the ENTER key

  4. Log on to your computer if prompted. Once logged in you will notice that the desktop looks different when compared to booting up your computer in normal mode. Your display may seem enlarged and unclear, but this is normal while in Safe Mode; the desktop will revert back to its previous state when you exit Safe Mode

When you are ready to exit Safe Mode, simply restart your computer.

The regular method for entering Safe Mode did not work.  So, I had to use the typing msconfig in the search box method.

Anyway, Zep ... no, Safe Mode did not help.

The non-working websites still didn't work.

Here is a bit of info that may or may not help.

By the looks of the settings and everything on this computer when I bought it ... it was obvious this computer had been used in MEXICO before ... seemingly in a restaurant.  I changed some settings to try and get rid of everything displaying in Spanish.  I made it better, but NOT all the Spanish remnants are gone.

So I don't know if there might be some setting or settings that if still set in Mexico or Spanish mode, might be causing this failure of mine.

Hello try this,

Copy and paste the text in the code box below into Notepad.

@Echo off
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
NETSH int ipv4 reset reset.log
NETSH int ipv6 reset reset.log
netsh int ip reset all
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset C:\resetlog.txt
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop.
Then
right-click flush.bat and select "Run as Administrator" your computer will reboot.

If that does no good, follow steps 4 and 5 in the link below that discuss dns.

Yes, I have my trusty ole Windows XP computer with a very old Maxthon browser that IS working.

Okay, let me try your latest plan and see how it goes.

Will get back to you later.

Woo Hoo!  You're a Genius, Zep!!!

That 2nd set of steps at kinsta.com was the ticket.  That did the trick.  :spoton:

I DO have a follow up question, though.

Okay, while just about ALL the websites that wouldn't load before now load ...

For some strange reason, at least here on my end --- the Walmart and Tracker Software website don't load remotely completely.  It's like they start to load and then stop.  So, there IS content / text and stuff there, but it's NOT remotely displayed like it's supposed to.

And that happens both with Opera Browser and Chrome.

Any idea why that is?

I don't have an idea as to why that is off hand. but I will think about it . Perhaps switching the router off and on may clear that up...

I turned the modem & router off for about 3 minutes and powered them back up.

Still the problem remains on both those sites ... with both Opera and Chrome.

The interesting thing is that that was also happening with my Windows XP computer and Maxthon browser.  At least the Walmart website.

I can't remember for sure, but I vaguely THINK that the Tracker Software website did work on my Windows XP computer.

Well, at least neither website is one that I remotely use on a daily basis.

So if there's no immediate fix, no biggie.

Thanks for your help, Zep.

This morning the problem somewhat returned.

I did some messing around and brainstorming.

After realizing that the problem manifested itself with Opera, Chrome and Vivaldi, it occurred to me that all 3 have the same browser engine.

So I thought ... why not try Firefox since that one has a completely different browser engine?

Lo & behold, the problem did NOT manifest itself with Firefox.

So it's become obvious ... something about this Windows 7 computer does NOT play well with the Chromium (Webkit / Blink) browser engine.

But, all in all, I'm realizing this computer is just having too many issues to tolerate.

For now I'm going back to using my old Windows XP computer.  I'll have to look into getting me a Windows 10 or 11 computer.
