Hello geeks,

I am not a web developer and may not use the proper lingo, including in the subject line.

For the last 20 years or so, I have a web site designed by myself using MS Expression Web, version 3.  It still works, i.e. connects to the web server and allows me to upload a page and/or a file. The URL begins with http://www...

I understand there is a "secure" protocol, https, but it did not bother me to learn more because my web site worked. However, I could not open it today. The error message read:

===========================================

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to www... Peer using unsupported version of security protocol.

Error code: SSL_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED_VERSION

    The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.

    Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

This website might not support the TLS 1.2 protocol, which is the minimum version supported by Firefox.

===========================================

The web site did open in Edge, with the /!\ Not Secure! URL prefix.

I Do plan to call tech support of the web hosting company. Unfortunately, the quality of support is not consistent, so I need to have a better understanding of the issues involved. For example, who implements this "Conversion"? Is it a function of a hosting server administrator? Is it a matter of creating a "script" to be placed in, e.g. web site root directory? I know nothing on this subject so any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated.
