Greetings

My computer shows three listings for a video driver and I don't know which one to use.

Backstory. Bought pc at rummage sale. Was on a home group. Could not get it off the home group so I installed Win10. PC came with Win7. Device Manager showed the coprocessor was not installed. Google pointed towards Nvidia. Sure enough, pc has Nvidia hardware. Found the driver, installed, Device Manager still shows not installed. Went in to manually install and found three listings for an Nvidia GeForce 9200. Which one do I use?

Thanks

Hello jmcs,

. Went in to manually install and found three listings for an Nvidia GeForce 9200. Which one do I use?

Impossible to say as we know zero about the computer other than you have installed Windows 10 and that it has an integrated GPU from 2007 which is some eight years before Windows 10 was even released.

If the computer is a notebook type post the brand and model name or number, if a desktop, do the below;

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

BTW, after I started working on this thing, my work schedule got screwed up. I will respond but it may be a day or two. Thanks in advance.

Now I`m confused, using the info from Speccy it appears that you have an Acer Aspire Z3101, using that info I got the results here where there is only a single driver update and that is for a wireless device.

From where did you get the drivers to which you refer.

Can you copy/paste the details of the said three drivers.

No worries, reply when you can and thanks for the heads up

I actually solved the problem myself by actually "reading" the info on the Nvidia website. I am learning patience is a virtue when it comes to computers. They do what you tell them, not what you want.

The GeForce 9200 is no longer showing on the Nvidia website. You have to ask support for it or as in my case, Google it. I downloaded the package and glanced over the install instructions. You are given two choices for an install, Express (Recommended) or Custom. For a regular install, you are to choose Express, follow the onscreen instructions and it installs. When I was looking for the info you requested, I decided to "read" the instructions. I found the topic "What to do if an install fails". You repeat the install, only this time you are to choose Custom, and make sure the "Clean Install" is checked. A clean install erases all instances of the driver being updated and then installs the necessary driver. I did that and the computer is now fixed. No exclamation points in Device Manager.

The three listings for the driver. When I went into Device Manager to manually install, under Nvidia, there was a driver for 2016 and two for 2015. It repeated that twice, so I had three drivers for 2016 and six for 2015. Following directions would have saved a lot of headache for me. This was not a case of driver/operating system incompatibility as I thought it was, the reason for posting here instead of hardware. It was a case of junk on the computer.

Thank you for your time.
