This query is about smart speakers (like Alexa Echo). If I have posted it to the wrong sub-forum, I would appreciate it if someone would repost it for me.
I am interested in the means Alexa (and Cortona, Siri, etc) took to build its databases. It seems to me that effort took a huge investment in people and computer time, not unlike the effort Google made (and continues to make) to keep Google Search working. Am I wrong here?
Is there a way that Alexa somehow draws on Google search to avoid making that huge investment? Can someone please explain Alexa's overall procedure? How much of it (if at all) is done by AI? What company maintains the Alexa database, a subsidiary of Amazon?
Have the procedures Alexa uses been described in the open literature; or is all that still proprietary and closely held?
I would welcome comments and suggestions. .... batpark
