I have tried to run the "McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool". But under the heading of "Could not Start Process as Admin" I get this:  "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.  A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from a unknown source."  Thoughts?  Thanks...

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Thanks for the reply.  I am using Windows 7.  Can't find the clipboard option.  I hope this helps instead.

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply as we have to read the full post to make sure nothing gets missed,, thanks.

Firewall
Firewall: Enabled
Display Name: McAfee Firewall
Antivirus
McAfee VirusScan
Antivirus: Disabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date
Avast Antivirus
Antivirus: Enabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date

Having more than one AV or Firewall installed on your computer is bad, it will slow down the computer, cause internet connection problems and leave you with no AV protection at all if they cancel each other out as they fight for resources, installing Avast before properly removing McAfee is most likely the cause of the issue that you mention, you will note the firewall is still McAfee and likewise that the McAfee AV program is fully up to date, neither would happen unless McAfee in its entirety is still installed on this machine.

Couple of approaches, quickest one first, uninstall Avast, restart the PC and then uninstall McAfee.

You can uninstall Avast in the Control Panel but should you have any problems see Avast clean removal info here Please create a new system restore point first.

I guess this is the best way to reply.  I uninstalled Avast and rebooted my computer.  Still getting the following message concerning McAfee when I run the removal program.

"Could Not Start Process As Admin."  That's the heading.  Under that is this:  "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.  A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source."  Again, thanks.

Polite reminder;

Just type your reply in the dialogue input box.

You are logged into Windows as Admin, yes.

Sometimes the quickest thing to do with problematic software is to install it again, restart the PC and then correctly run the programs own removal tool, if that doesn`t work we have one other way to get rid of it before we have to ask a security expert to take a look.
