Dear

I'm not sure what the cause if, but even connectin the external screen to another laptop, it gives a noisy ssss sound  but not always.

only in these situations:

when screen go's to  sleep.

when I play a video.

I discoverd that when I put an app on (baby cam) then even when screen goes to sleep, it does not anymore make this sound.

the screen is connected with a HDMI cable.

the moment i close the video that is playing, after a few seconds the sss sound also stops.

Anyone  an idea?

A tricky one to pin down  :headscratch:

Does the noise increase and decrease if you adjust the volume when watching a video.

Have you tried using the display or VGA ports.

What version of Windows are you running, 7, 8.1, 10 or 11.

even connectin the external screen to another laptop, it gives a noisy ssss sound  but not always.

The above confirms that it is a monitor as opposed to a PC hardware issue, not ideal but the monitor cold be anything up to eight years old and if used plenty it could just be an age thing.

Dear

Windows 11, no vga port on this laptop.

The other laptop I used to test the screen: Windows 10, test it with hdmi and vga.

vga: I play the same video on 'movie and tv' app  : no ssss sound. only if I shut off the screen (power button), and back on then a few seond sss sound then it stops, an all is ok. If I still remember on the other laptop, it started like this too.

Disconnecting the vga cable from the Win 10 laptop, after a few seconds (after black screen then the message is shown on screen no input signal... )  the sssss sound comes back then stops after a few seconds.

Even if the screen is not connected to any laptop, when I power off the screen, then first seconds sss sound, then the moment the no ionput signal message appears, the sss sound stops.

Then i connected the HDMI cable: on the Win 10 laptop. playing the same video and the sss sound occures.  I adjusted the volume, : if I go higher, then ss sound sounds less , If if lower the volume to zero, sss sound is louder.

Going back to the default laptop Win 11, connected aother shorter ( new from packet) HDMI cable, same issue when playing video : I adjusted the volume, : if I go higher, then ss sound sounds less , If if lower the volume to zero, sss sound is louder.

You have done well with your own troubleshooting so very little that we can suggest here I`m afraid.

Have you tried completely disconnecting the screen from the computer and then powering up just the screen to see if you get any noise, this is the only way to rule in or out the video ports being involved in some way.

Yes i also test that (Even if the screen is not connected to any laptop, when I power off the screen, then turn on offcourse,  then first seconds sss sound, then the moment the no ionput signal message appears, the sss sound stops. ) See  previous message

and on Win 10 laptop it worked when playing video with VGA cable, so it I can suspect that the hdmi port of the screen is damaged or some other part in the screen..

You say that the noise is present when not attached.

and on Win 10 laptop it worked when playing video with VGA cable, so it I can suspect that the hdmi port of the screen is damaged or some other part in the screen..

It can`t be the HDMI port if the noise is present when nothing is connected to the HDMI port and likewise if it was a problem with the HDMI port you would still hear the noise when connected to the VGA port.

If the noise is present when not connected to any external source it 100% has to be the screen but not necessarily the speakers, it could be a leaking capacitor that when put under load gives out a hissing sound.

The screen is old and showing its age so you can either learn to live with the sound, get yourself a set of notebook speakers to try or replace the screen, having it repaired would not be a cost effective solution.
