Hi everyone.

 

I need assistance to make a usb flash drive read only and to remain read only on whichever computer or laptop I insert it into.  The simple reason is that I do not want to have my files or documents accidentally altered or deleted or the itself device to be formatted if I share it with anyone else be it at home or at the office.  So far I have only managed to make my usb drives read only on my own laptop with the diskpart command but when I use it in another laptop the read only settings does not apply.   

 

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Unless Bitlocker To Go (Win 10+) offers that capability I think your only option is a ROM USB.  Not sure what they cost, if they are practical for a home user or even if you can buy them in small quantities yet but

the CD2 Memory USB

seems to be what you need.

 

Of course it might be easier to just burn the data to a CD that is not RW.  If your user doesn't have a CD drive they do make USB CD drives so you could provide them or require them.

Thank you for the response and advice.

 

Bitlocker to go appears to limit protection only on  the system where the encryption is set up. I have checked out the CD2 Memory USB option and what it offers appears to be suitable for my needs.  Thanks again for the advice.
