Hello,

I'm running Windows 7 sp1 64 bit.

I've been using MSWORKS 4.5 since it came out.

Suddenly this week it will no longer run task wizards such as letterhead, letter, etc.

Reinstalling doesn't help, even with a brand new CD,

I like Works, it does what I want simply and without unnecessary frills.

Until now. Nothing has changed except that.

I have every version of Works from 2 to 9 but I like this version.

If all else fails I'll install version 8 or 9 but they are cluttered with too many extras, and are they likely to be any different?

Thanks for any advice.

Hello,

Not much else to try since you have already re- installed, it might have a repair function, locate the program in program an features, right click on it and choose repair. Never know maybe that would fix registry entries that reinstalling does not.

Hadn't thought about registry errors, I'll give that a try.

Many thanks for the idea.

Hello,

Might be a good idea to run system file checker in windows 7, if it comes back with errors reboot and run it again for up to 3 times,

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the search bar, type CMD .
  3. Right-click CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  4. On the User Account Control (UAC) prompt, click Yes.
  5. In the command prompt window, type SFC /scannow and press Enter .
  6. System file checker utility checks the integrity of Windows system files and repairs them if required.

Thanks, I've run sfc twice, nothing found. Just running deep virus scan, all files.

Incidentally. I have an old laptop on 7 and just checked it. It's not running task wizards either, but it did last time I used it.

Weird.

Forgot to mention that the other laptop is 32 bit, not 64, so that's not the problem.

I'm not sure what task wizards is, but I wonder if it would run in the safe mode on either computer.

Have you checked to see if it is still compatible with Win 7? Something could have changed.

Yes, still compatible.

Word processor, database, spreadsheet, still working.

It's just the task wizards, like letter, letterhead, correspondence, that stopped.
