I have an HP computer with Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU  E8400  @ 3.00GHz and 16.0 GB of RAM. The OS is Windows 10 Pro 64-bit operating system. I have upgraded my power supply to an Apevia ATX-GX650W Galaxy 650W 80+ Gold Semi-Modular Power Supply. I have also installed an MZHOU 7 Ports PCI-E to USB 3.0 Expansion Card with a 19-Pin SATA Power Connector. I would now like to purchase an SSD hard drive with at least 1TB of capacity. I don't know if I should purchase an internal SSD drive that is PCI-E capable or go with an external USB drive. Does anyone have a suggestion, other than to purchase a newer computer? I am concerned that there may be an issue with USB generations.

For such an old computer you would be better to go for an external USB SSD that has its own power supply.
