Cursor gone rogue

I have a Toshiba laptop (Satellite P55t-A5116) running win 8.1. Recently the cursor will intermittently take on a life of its own moving to the top left and entering (i.e., clicking) in rapid succession. I didn't see any related topics within the site or elsewhere. Your help is appreciated - thanks.
