Hi, I have a folder on my desktop that will not delete.

When I try to do so a pop-up states:

Could not find the item

This is no longer located in C:\Users\Rick\Desktop

Verify the item's location and try again

Date created 25/04/2024 18:44.

Can you help?

Restart the computer and check if the folder is still on to the Desktop.

Try in safe mode to remove it.

  • Press the Windows icon on the keyboard together with the letter I, to get into the Settings.
  • Choose Update and Security.
  • From the menu at the left, choose Recovery.
  • Under the title Advanced startup at the right, choose Restart now.
  • From the window that will appear choose Troubleshoot and then Advanced options.
  • Choose Startup Settings and then Restart.
  • Press number 5, for choosing Safe mode with networking.
  • You will know that you are in Safe mode, if the background is black and Safe mode is written at the four corners of the screen.

Seems that you didn't follow my instructions step by step. From step 2 you tried to jump to step 5.

Please, read the instructions carefully again. Do not leave steps 3 and 4 behind.

Hi,

Due apologies and a promise to follow instructions to the letter.

I got into safe mode via your instructions and tried to delete the Folder but again it came up with this pop up.

In the Search area type CMD and when the item appears, select the Run as Administrator option. This is important.

After that, type (copy and paste) the following command in the CMD window:

cd \Users\Rick\Desktop

Press Enter.

Type (copy and paste) the following command:

RD /S 1

Confirm by typing Y and Enter.

Let me know if the folder is gone.

Have you created this file on 25th April?

I'll need logs to go for a check of your system.

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop. --> IMPORTANT

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

If your antivirus software detects the tool as malicious, it’s safe to allow FRST to run. It is a false-positive detection.

If English is not your primary language, right click on FRST.exe/FRST64.exe and rename to FRSTEnglish.exe/FRST64English.exe

  • Double-click the FRST icon to run the tool. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button and wait for a while.
  • The scanner will produced two logs on your Desktop: FRST.txt and Addition.txt.
  • Please attach the content of these two logs in your next reply.

(To attach the files, click on the More Reply Options at the bottom right of the reply area, and then choose Attach File)
