Well, mostly all I have done is run tools from you all.  I would need step by step instructions to do this.  The system install came from the Malware portion of the previous topic I did.... Go to the full post »

Hello.

I started where I thought I should start and DrM says the computer is clean.  He sent me here.  He also suggested I send you the link to our conversation so that you can see what we have done.  Hopefully you can help me out a little more, because it has been doing this crap forever and I'm tired of it.  Thanks so much for your kind attention to this matter!  Respectfully, d

Hello d.brack,

Couple of things for you to do;

Please post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy ( free ) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options;

Flush DNS

List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply for us if you will.

As far as the power supply, you may have to direct me to the location of that information if it is not in the first paragraph, OK?  And please feel free to call me Dee.  I gave this computer to my grandson this computer about 4-5 years ago for the TV.  He is now 17 and has always 'thought' he knew what he was doing.  So, all kinds of things could be affected, understand?  I personally shutdown or disable anything that is not necessary due to fear of hacking and also to give my games (and videos) the extra help they may need.  With that said, here is what I've gathered together for you.

Device name    OriginalWin10
Processor    AMD A10-5800K APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics     4.30 GHz
Installed RAM    12.0 GB (11.8 GB usable)

Product ID    00326-10000-00000-AA806
System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch    No pen or touch input is available for this display

Couple of things going on there, will mention them as the are list in Speccy;

Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Computer type: Desktop
Installation Date: 10/8/2024 3:19:29 PM

Windows is shown to be a recent install and a lazy one at that, called lazy as rather than it be done properly the system has just been allowed to work using Windows own generic drivers, how it should have been done and for as to why is explained in my canned info below;

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.

The reason why this procedure is so important, the chipset is what enables the MB to be able to communicate with all the hardware + are the first drivers that Windows looks for on boot.

Windows and the MBs system drivers should have been installed on a seperate 250GB partition on the HDD, see second canned info below;

Windows should always be installed on either its own drive or on a separate partition on a larger drive, this reduces the amount of free space that is required to be kept available + it makes creating a regular back a whole lot easier.

A 256GB SSD or separate partition on a larger capacity drive should be the minimum capacity allowed for.

Equally as important is being prepared for the need to upgrade to another OS, Windows 10 is nearing its end of life and extended support will cease on October 14th, 2025, when the time comes you will only have to worry about upgrading or clean installing Windows to the C: partition as opposed to needing to reinstall all of your programs and data if they were kept on a separate partition on the same drive.

Windows will also boot up quicker on its own partition as it does not need to install drivers for any third party programs.

Problems we can see in the MTB log include missing drivers, Malwarebytes amd FF issues, one of the MBAM issues is its installation of a VPN that has been foisted on you.

If me, I would download and save to a flashdrive the latest drivers available from ASUS for the chipset, SATA and video, clean install Windows and the system drivers and then partition the drive so that you can keep personal data separate.

Well, mostly all I have done is run tools from you all.  I would need step by step instructions to do this.  The system install came from the Malware portion of the previous topic I did.  If this is more work than you care to take on, please just let me know.  I will say this.  After what we did today, it didn't crash all day.  I'm by far saying it's fixed, but it is running a little better.  So, let me know if you are done or what.  Thanks so much!

I'm sorry, I got deathly sick and am just getting better.  Flu, pnuemonia, etc.  I thank you for keeping this open for me!!!  I think I can do the install and drivers listed but I have no idea how to create a partition or how to get anything to go into the partition.  This is pretty heavy job here for me.

I am also concerned about the VPN and other issues you talked about.  That scares me immensely!  I was poking around last week and I saw that out of my 5 sign-ins there were 3 from China.  Please, talk to me!!!

Thanks you immensely for allowing me to come back!!!
