Hello there!

I am in the UK and looking to buy something to enable me to listen to music on my computer, android phone or tablet without disturbing anybody else. I have the opportunity to buy some Sony WF-1000X earphones from a family member: they are completely new and unwrapped (they came free with a mobile phone), but the date on them is 2017. I am wondering whether to buy these, or something newer.

I know absolutely nothing about these things, demonstrated by the fact that I actually purchased some old-style headphones without even realising that my devices have no sockets they could be plugged into!   Can anybody advise at all, please?

Many thanks.

Used or unused it all depends on the price really as regardless of anything else they are still second hand so it depends on any asking price, refurbished set here for £25.00

I personally wouldn't be charging family for 7+ years old tech.

Hello Phill and thank you for your reply.

I do not want money to be a big consideration here. That is not because I have lots of it, that is definitely not true! However, the person in question helps my husband and me a great deal and was just about to put the earphones up for sale - so I would not want them to miss out, especially as they are somewhat financially challenged at the moment!

My concern in buying them is only that if possible I do not want to get them and then learn that they are too out of date in terms of technology to use. I assume that there would not be great advances made in earphones since 2017, but then I do not know much about these things.

I guess that, as this is not likely to involve a really large sum of money, I will probably get them and just take a chance that they will not turn out not to be very good.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Chris,

Unlike years ago BT is BT these days with newer tech being backwards compatible and BT version 5.0 from back in 2016 will be just as good now as it was then, check your own phones specs but fwiw a Samsung S10 and an iphone 13 as examples of two not so old smartphones both have BT version 5.0.

You are welcome btw  :)
