Hello Forum,

I have been struggling now for days trying to stop my laptop from crashing because the the Network Driver installed by Windows 10 Updates. I'm seeking assistance to install a specific NETWORK DRIVER from the Toshiba website, but after trying to set a POLICY to block the Win 10 update, it appears I am doing something wrong, and missing the .INI file and the package.

I would appreciate help resolving this issue. Thanks

So other can assist let get a speccy report.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Nothing in the speccy report can be used to hack your computer

I have narrowed the issue down to the Network Driver. On my Toshiba website, it reads that I should be using the Intel Wireless LAN Driver 2021-04-16 | Version: 18.20.0.9_wCAT. However, due to Windows Updates, this is NOT the driver version (17.15.0.5) that is on my Network Adapter now.

In addition, my Bluetooth Device has disappeared, and there is an UNKNOWN DEVICE showing in my Device Manager.

I saw this driver version v18.33.17.1. In fact, this driver was installed on my system and it crashed multiple times a day and caused me to have the BSOD. This driver is NOT even listed as a compatible driver for my system. Here is an image from the Toshiba Support website showing the latest driver I could use.

Hi,

  • open the Device Manager
  • right click the Unknown device
  • click Properties > Tab Details > On the Property box select Hardware Ids
  • Copy & Paste the values on the box to your Reply

Do the same for the Wireless Network Adapter

Thank you sir.

Yes, I am knowledgeable on how to install drivers. However, I did not attempt to install the suggested Wireless Network Adapter 17.0.0.34.0.s64_wCAT driver, because the driver ( 17.15.0.5 ) that is currently installed on my system is not experiencing BSOD issues, and so far not crashing. BUT IT IS NOT THE LATEST DRIVER RECOMMENDED, WHICH IS THE Version: 18.20.0.9_wCAT.

Then why change drivers?

You should only change drivers if you are having problems, or it is part of a security patch.

It is not necessary to always update drivers it normally causes more problems.

Did you see my link for stopping Microsoft driver updates?
