Hello Grecian Geek,

I hope you are well.

You may remember helping me to clean my laptop from potential malware (thread in the Malware section). I have replied to that thread, with the content below, but I am also starting a new thread in case this is best practice.

Sadly, since I did all the reset you asked me to do etc.. I have noticed that I can no longer access important files that I had stored in my SD card. When I try to open pictures or word documents or M4a (audio files), I have the message below:

'It appears that you don't have permission to view this file. Check the permissions and try again.'

Unfortunately this is quite important, how do I restore access/permissions? I am the owner of this computer so I should have permissions to access my documents.

All files contained on my SD card have a lock next to them, I have tried to deactivate encryption but I am not successful. I don't really remember encrypting these files.

Grateful for your help

Kind Regards

CB

Hi, CB.

I replied to you in the initial topic: personal laptop showing unauthorized activity %5BSolved%5D - Virus, Spyware, Malware Removal

You didn't reply there.

Since the issue seems different from what you described in the topic above, I closed that one and I moved my comments to you here.

My comments:

1. The BSOD has nothing to do with malware in your case. If you continue getting these screens, let me know and I'll send you to the appropriate forum.

2. Your logs are clean and have nothing strange in them.

3. We didn't do any reset.

4. You said:

My question is: Is this SD card an external disk where you save your files?

There are signs of corruption on a disk you used on February 10th.

Hello, and thank you for your reply.

Very pleased to hear about points 1-3, I will let you know if I get more of these blue errors, they come up out of the blue, last time I was quick enough to take a picture of it.

4. In reply to this point, yes, its a Micro SD card that I use to store confidential and sensitive files, I don't know how these files go corrupted, is there any way I can restore the files to the original status?

Many thanks

From what I can understand, your SD card has been locked.
