I have a Toshiba Satellite 2805 laptop. The thing does not power on. I see no lights blinking or nothing. I went out to best buy and bought a brand new power adapter, still nothing. The thing was working fine the other day. Any ideas?

First things first. Is the power supply ok... Do you have other electrical items plugged into the same socket? Not sure from your profile what power supply you use. Have you noticed any similar problems before. Was it new when you got it,..How long you've had it, or did you buy it second hand? Please tell as as much as possible to speed up fixing your problem.

Yes, the power supply is ok. I have bought the exact same one from the store brand new, and it still does not work. I also tested the power adapter with a voltage meter. The power supply is good. The power supply is a toshiba PA3048U. This problem never happen before. It was on one day, I turn it off and the thing never turned back on. I got this laptop second hand.

I had it for about one year.

I took out the battery and tried it with just the power adapter and still nothing.

Could it possibly be a dead CMOS battery? Even with a dead CMOS battery, there should be at least some sort of light or beeping noise, correct?

Lets just say the batter, power adapter, and CMOS battery is good. Does this mean that this motherboard is out?

I tried powering it on without the hard drive too, still, no beep, no lights, no life.

Sound to me that your batt is dead (check that, most have a little button on the side to check the power level), and your A/C plug is broken. If you check with your local computer shop you will find that fixing the a/c power adapter is their bread and butter. I had to have mine replaced and it cost me 120$. But works like brand new! I dont know of a way to check to see if the plug-in is working? But I hope that helps a little

Pull the plug and remove battery.

Hold the power button in for 30 seconds and release.

Leave the battery out.

Plug it in and try to boot up.

Anything?
