WELL it's been quite (surprisingly) long that my machine is still obeying it's master .About 2 days ago i nearly thought of formatting this PC , but miraculously syatem restored wrked ...and the [bleep] TURNED INTO HEAVEN>>

Ehh...about a month ago, I suppose, on my old PC. Gosh, that one was really conked up. Hijackthis worked to an extent, but I had so many trashy programs installed on my PC and I was just so incredibly sick and tired of uninstalling programs and deleting the leftovers that I just did a reformat. It wasn't even that tough - the entire thing took maybe forty-five minutes, tops. I did have to hunt around for a bit to find a cure to the Sasser virus that overtook my computer three seconds into reformatting, but once I had Windows updates and Service Pack 2 installed, along with the regular anti-virus/anti-spyware/firewall programs, everything worked like a dream once again.

I don't know that I've ever reformatted and reinstalled everything. I have files in My Documents from 1997, but Windows is in it's own partition and I have formatted that and reinstalled Windows. Judging by the file dates it was last done in Sept, 2003. Seems like it should even be longer than that, but I may have started fresh when I upgraded to a new hard drive. Actually, I've upgraded drives a few times, changed partition sizes, and done a couple repair installs. I know I did do a 'clean install' when I installed XP originally.

As you spend time on this site, you'll discover that we consider 'format' a dirty word, and very rarely recommend it.

Maybe a year ago. I don't like doing it, so I don't. There are tools out there that'll fix nearly anything.

I have never reformatted, or had to do a restore. I've had this machine about four years now, just keep it up-to-date with Windows updates, and run my Anti Spyware/virus tools and firewall...and viola. No problems!

Last month.....twice.......I had some major computer issues....first reformat did nothing...but the second worked like a charm!

But my computer is going bad...I could have avoided one of those reformats if I wouldnt have rushed through it and reformatted with my good video card in it.....I guess im supposed to tkae that one out until I can install it......

well!! people here don't format too often.....i only format due to my bro who is very careless in using the computer ,,he disables all protection by saying "the machine would run faster without these silly hurdles" later on when he's struck with all the gifts of free world......he passes the entire blame to me.....well i think big bro can do computer security by force of their muscle....
