Hi mavrix,

You have a lot of junk on there! Not to worry, we'll get it cleaned up.

1) Download PeperFix from:
http://downloads.sub...rg/PeperFix.exe.

2) Download CleanUp! from http://www.antispywa...ftware.php?id=1

***You may want to print out these instructions as you will not have access to the internet***

3) Boot into safe mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4) -Double click on Peperfix.exe
-click: Find and fix button
-Reboot when prompted

5) Repeat steps 3 and 4.

6) Reboot back into normal mode (simply reboot as you normally would).

7) Run HJT again and place a check next to the following items:

8) Close any open browsers and windows and click "Fix Checked".

9) Reboot into safe mode again.

10) Uninstall the following programs from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Uninstall any slight variations of them. It is okay if they are not there.

- WeatherBug (this program comes bundled with Spyware. There are safer alternatives available)
- Viewpoint
- WildTangent
- anything with a name similar to MyWay, MySearch, MyWebSearch, WebRebates, etc.

11) Enable hidden files and folders:
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

12) Find and delete the following files and folders: (It's ok if some do not exist)

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <-- Whole folder
C:\documents and settings\robyn\local settings\temp\4pWomr.exe
C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates <-- Whole folder
C:\Program Files\BullsEye Network <-- Whole folder

13) Run CleanUp!

In Options, make sure it is on "Standard CleanUp"

Click the "CleanUp!" button.

When it asks you to log off, decline.

14) Reboot into normal mode. (simply reboot as you would normally).

15) Post a new log.

Log looks good over here, hows your computer running?

Here is an optional fix you can have HJT fix (make sure to close any open browsers and windows before hitting "Fix Checked")

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
This is part of QuickTime that allows SystemTray access to QuickTime. If you use Quicktime a lot, keep it, other wise have HJT fix it.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

Awesome, thanks for those links, and of course, the help.

I was fixing one of my friends computers that just got overrun with the spyware mess, I really appreciate the help - spybot and adaware are great, but they just don't pick everything up. I do believe it's running rather nicely now.

Got another question for you though - how can I learn how to interpret HJT logs? It'd be nice to know how to fix the stuff on my own.
