Ok.. I went to Windows Update and the site said it needed to install new software from Windows Update, so I clicked INSTALL. I goes through the install process, then brings up a page that reads:

[Error number: 0x80070002] The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.

I enter that error into their Self-Help and get these instructions:

1. Delete the contents of the DataStore folder

Stop the Automatic Updates service
Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Delete the contents of the DataStore folder
Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution.
Click OK.
Open the DataStore folder.
Delete all contents of the DataStore folder.
Close the window.

Re-Start the Automatic Updates service

I do all that, to no avail. Same problem.

So, I found a few sites that recommended doing the following:

Try re-registering the following files:

Start > Run > regsvr32 wuapi.dll > OK
Start > Run > regsvr32 wups.dll > OK
Start > Run > regsvr32 wuaueng.dll > OK
Start > Run > regsvr32 wucltui.dll > OK
Start > Run > regsvr32 atl.dll > OK
Start > Run > regsvr32 MSXML3.dll > OK

Restart the computer, and then try Windows Update site again

When I put in any regsvr32 command, I get the following OK dialog box:

Windows cannot find 'regsvr32'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file. . . etc.

A search shows the REGSVR.dll file in th eC:\WINDOWS\system directory.

Any thoughts? I will add my HiJack this file to the bottom here, but I think I am clean. I have run all the recommended removal tools and use Webroot Spysweeper, Ad-Aware and Norton's all the time.

HELP!
Scott
