Is Adaware Personal (freeware) OK for locating malware for the puposes of forum help or do I really need to use the paid-for version?

Ad-aware is a good program to use for cleaning out spyware. Not all free ones are good (or even the paid ones - these you have to be careful on also because some are fake and they rip you off).

We usually ask users to use Ad-aware, Spybot and Microsoft Antispyware. All which are free.
