Hi, I am a newbie to Linux. I have Windows XP installed and have recently installed Fedora Core 1 and made a dual boot..
Since then, whenever I boot into Fedora, I get a blank screen, but I can see the pointer, and I can move it..
Pressing CTRL+ALT+f# doesn't do anyting..

I only got to see the screen once, first time after installing it.
I have about the same problem (No pointer though) with Windows since the installation, but I can get to the normal screen after hibernating (Closing the lid of the laptop and opening), but I can't hibernate with Linux!!

Anyhelp is appreciated..

Couple of items for you:

1) Fedora Core 1 is way old. I would recommend a fresh install with Core 4 which is current.
2) We will need as much information as you can provide on your machine.

Hi Huda!

Righto on Core 4, no probs. Couple of items for you:

1) Is your screen blank (as in black) or is it gray with a larger sized X for a pointer?
2) Do you get a command prompt when you hit ctl-alt-f1? (if so, to get back, hit ctl-alt-f7)

Hi SD,

It is black, and for the first couple of moments, the pointer is a big X, then it becomes a usual arrow (Too normal).

I get nothing when I hit ctrl+alt+F1.. I tried hundred times but it does nothing.

Yikes, looks like Xwindows is locking you up tight. Something to try:

When you get to the bootloader screen, hit (no quotes) "a" then enter:

vga=771

and boot. Let me know if there is any change.

ًًًWeird.. It just ran normally this time!! Really weird, and I will never know why!
I haven't done anything noticable in either Windows or Fedora.. Now, Fedora's problem is solved, but Windows isn't.. Anyway, I am not much into Shutdown, I can live on hibernating for months!

Thanks for trying to help..
