Thanks,

I am having problems getting rid of advertising.com, double click, media plex, hitbox, value click, etc. -- Ran Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spysweeper, etc. numerous times with no luck. Are these malware or harmless cookies? When I run Spybot they keep coming up as needing to be deleted, but they keep coming back after deleting them. Am I to be concerned? I downloaded Zone Alarm in an attempt to stop them or should I just rely on the Microsoft Antispyware or should I run both as firewalls. I am posting a new Hijackthis log for your review.

Again, Thanks again in advance. - Dan

Ok glad I can help :tazz:

Please download the Ewido Security Suite (trial version) from here :

http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ ...and install it. Update to the newest definitions. Do not run this yet

As this tool works best in safe mode, this is the way we should go. If your not sure how to get there here's a quick tutorial.

Reboot your computer in safe mode

Run the tool in safe mode and then reboot and send me a new log and the ewido scan results please. ;)

John L.

I downloaded and ran Ewido as per your request, but I couldn't get it to update. I ran a scan and didn't know if you wanted a process report or a connections report and will take a shot at sending your a new Hijackthis report first and follow it with a Ewido processes report. Note: Ewido found 52 "infected" files.

Glad to see you managed to get that downloaded.

Thats not the scan i was looking for actually, seems i messed up a little on the instructions.

What you have posted is the process report, what i actually need is the scanner results.

You can do that by clicking on the scanner link, and then clicking complete system scan.

Please post that with your next reply :tazz:

John,

I ran the scan earlier, but all that I could cut and paste or save were the 2 reports mentioned before. I quarantined the numerous infected files, but I can't save them to file or cut and paste them. When I went to "help" on the Ewido site, it gave me a message of not being able to translate and that this help file would be available soon. I am probably doing something wrong. As mentioned, I think that I have what you need in the quarantined file, but can't figure out how to send it to you. Do you want me to try and run the scan again, or can you please advise what to do next. Thanks again - Dan

Hi Dan :tazz:

I'm running out of thigns to look for here, as this log doesn't look to be in that bad of shape, in fact it looks pretty good.

Let's try this and see where it takes us.

See hidden folders and files

After that please show me a new log.

John,

My hidden folders option was already turned off.

I did go back and found these references on a Spybot search. I have checked these for removal about 5 times and they keep coming back as objectionable or results that of Spybot is calling bad I believe. Please take a look @ these and I re-installed Ewido and may be able to send you a report later this evening. Thanks you sir. ----------- Dan

John,

I did a scan and deleted as suggested, but the file looks to long to post. I delete cookies on a daily basis anyway using the Firefox - tools - privacy, etc. What should I do now? I would bet that if I ran Spybot again it would show the same list of "objectionables" as they keep reoccuring. --------------- Thanks again -------------- Dan

Hi Dan :tazz:

I want you to try something that i had totally forgotten about. I used to use this all the time, I'm surprised i forgot about it.

Step 1:
Download the eScan Antivirus Toolkit Here. Save it to the Desktop, it is 9.55MB in size.
Before running the program we need to update the signature files first in Step 2.

Step 2:
Updating the eScan Antivirus Toolkit with the latest files:

1.) Double-click on the mwav.exe file saved to the Desktop; it will extract the program files to new folder called Kaspersky at the root of the C:\drive. (C:\Kaspersky.)

2.) Double-click on My Computer, double-click on the Hard Drive (usually the C:\drive), find and double-click on the Kaspersky folder; inside the Kaspersky folder, find and double-click on the kavupd.exe file. Double-clicking on the kavupd.exe file opens the Windows command prompt (DOS screen) and updates the program with all the latest signature files. By default, the update process creates a folder on the root of the C:\drive called Downloads. This is where the updated files are placed.

3.) After the update is complete, the bottom of the command prompt will read "Press any key to continue", click any key to close the screen. Now, copy and paste the new updated signature files from the C:\Downloads folder to the C:\Kaspersky folder where eScan originally extracted the antivirus program files.

Please do not run a scan with the eScan Antivirus Toolkit utility yet.

Step 3:
Please reboot into Safe Mode.

Reboot your computer in safe mode

Step 4:
From Safe Mode, run the eScan Antivirus Toolkit. Please follow these instructions:

1.) To run the eScan Antivirus Toolkit program, look for a file called mwavscan.com inside the C:\Kaspersky folder.

2.) Double-click on the mwavscan.com file; this will open the eScan program.

3.) With the eScan interface on your Desktop, make sure that the boxes under Scan Option, Memory, Registry, Startup Folders, System Folders, Services, are checked.

4.) Check the Drive box, this will create a another Drive box below it, check this second Drive box as well, now a large window across from the second Drive box appears. In this window use the drop-down arrow and choose the drive letter of your hard drive, usually C:\.

5.) Below these boxes, make sure the box Scan All Files is checked, not Program Files.

6.) Click the Scan Clean (or Scan) button and let the utility run until it completes a thorough scan of your hard drive. When the scan has finished it will read Scan Completed.

And thanks to SirJon for this great writeup.

After that let me know what you find. ;)

Coach John,

I did as you requested and Escan found 1 problem as described in this report:
File C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\classload.jar-50757294-7dfa3383.zip infected by "Trojan.Java.ClassLoader.c" Virus. Action Taken: File Deleted.

I then re-started the computer and ran a Spybot and still have the re-occuring problems. Here is a copy of my Spybot results:
Advertising.com: Tracking cookie (Firefox: default) (Cookie, fixed)
Advertising.com: Tracking cookie (Firefox: default) (Cookie, fixed)
Advertising.com: Tracking cookie (Firefox: default) (Cookie, fixed)

Advertising.com: Tracking cookie (Firefox: default) (Cookie, fixed)
Advertising.com: Tracking cookie (Firefox: default) (Cookie, fixed)

What do you want me to do next?

Thanks again ----------------- Dan
