my desktop won't connect to the internet (long story), but my laptop works using the LAN line. i found site that might fix my problem, but i don't have a connection to the internet. someone else told me to "ping" to the internet unless i lost all my packets...but i don't know what that means.

you don't have a connection to the internet on the laptop? or the desktop? and..."Ping to the internet" probably means ping www.google.com. open a command prompt on the desktop and type ipconfig /all and post the results

when i do that cmd it just says "Windows IP Configuration"
this was my original question, but then i got stumped at the ping part:
Can't release and renew IP address. The ipconfig cmds don't work and repairing the connection always fails. I saw something about WinSocks XP Fix, but how do you actually get to that page and download if you can't get on the internet in the first place??
