I think the release date for Vistas is end of 2006 summer. Oh and the new version of IE they run with it, has tabbed browsing. I think they used firefox to make it.

I believe you i was just wondering where people got legal copies, because i was wondering if you have to pay something, because that would make sense, but i dont think they should charge you for testing out very buggy software for them, and possibly damaging to your hardware if you dont know what you are doing, but i'm sure your're a genius if you're willing to take the risk. I did later find a bit torrent for beta 1, but the only other computer i have to test operating systems on is a pentium II and i know that it would not run vista.

Well i do not believe that Vista makes iTunes play bad. There is a little clicking sound that is very annoying but i feel that an updated iTunes made for Vista would solve all the probs... As far as i can tell it runs very smooth, much better then i thought it would. Besides iTunes i have had no probs.. As for needing a beast to run vista i have to say you are wrong. I keep my puter fairly up-to-date 1Gig dual channel ram ddr400, x850xt, 3500+ 64bit and it runs great now this may be higher then most average user but come on in year it wont be that great, besides you build for the future, if not you are never going to get anywhere... i am going to run css today and get back to you on how it went...

Yea, It wouldn't need a beast of a computer to use it but for its full potental then you will need a beast. On my computer that little clicking sound is not just little clicking sounds its a little clicking sound followed by static then by a short skip of the song. It just might be the version of Itunes I have, or it could also be that my harddrive that I'm running ITunes off of is slowly failing block by block. I have had a problem with codexs for Media Player. I had a set installed and IE and Windows Explorer both closed themselves with in ten seconds of being opened, so I uninstalled it. It sometimes runs games great, but sometimes a game, which works a few seconds before, will not work, but its still the beta so its got time for improvement.

Well i tried css plays great but the rez can only go to 1280x768, after that i just get a black screen, i am thinking this is a problem with my video card driver and not vista itself. Also TEM what do you use for antivirus?? i was installing symantec and i got a BSOD and it took a while to get everything going again. and now everytime i right click it wants to reinstall symantec how can i stop that??

I have yet to try any antivirus software in Vistas, I dual boot into XP for that. As for the video card drivers, they are all in beta for Vistas.

It was a foregone conclusion that Windows Vista would need higher minimum hardware specs than XP. It's been that way since day one - DOS - Windows 3.1 - Windows 95 etc etc -- each one needed more muscle than the previous version. Then Bill gets a pat on the back from the hardware manufacturers for giving us all a reason to upgrade and keep their profits climbing and the shareholders happy! Cynical? Who - me?
